RE LEAR_ L’OPERA CHE NON C’È | PREMISE | 40’
first creation for ND’T#19
In co-production with the Natura Dèi Teatri festival, dramaturgical research begins, musical and visual on King Lear, the 'absent' opera of Giuseppe Verdi, which will see an important artistic collaboration between the electronic musician Robin Rimbaud and Lenz Rifrazioni. The project presented in the form of a premise in the 19th edition of Natura Dèi Teatri, it will be proposed in its definitive form as part of the Verdi Festival 2015.
“The Phantom of an Opera”, in the precise definition of Mario Lavagetto. The unfinished Lear, never set to music but always desired, always virtual presence in various works by Giuseppe Verdi. In Rigoletto, nella Luisa Miller tra tragedia della paternità e rispecchiamenti di fools a testimoniare – a sperimentare – il desiderio insoddisfatto di scavare nell’animo e nell’intimo umani del re/padre/folle.
The work that is not there but which can be perceived - glimpsed, you enter/listen – the immanent presence in the fragments dedicated to it of other works, in other Shakespearean and non-Shakespearean characters. The work that, in part, transpires from the verses of Cammarano and Somma which have remained silent over time. The desired and outlined work, discussed and remodeled in its dramatic mechanisms in order not to lose any of the original theatrical power in the search for the same melodramatic power and synthesis.
However, there is an Eco, in the Greek derivation “a rumble”, an invisible mouth at which numerous arias converge, sounds, images appeared elsewhere.
The project traces a path of investigation and reconstruction of all the scattered elements of Verdi's fragmented and unfinished creative desire to proceed, Then, to an "invention" - inventiònem, find by investigating - of a simulacrum of a performative and musical work of art that draws from Shakespeare's Lear and Verdi's Lear the fundamental elements to its manifestation, to its representation.
Contemporary writing has languages that can push research to experiment with new forms of creative interweaving between melodrama, new composition, real and virtual scenography, acting and singing style, unplugged and electronic music: all elements that, in the unique case of the creation of a work that does not exist, they can help give shape and body to an unfinished but so powerful project, paradoxically, be often cited in the Verdian/Shakespearean repertoire.
