RADICAL CHANGE | RC

Like a little Phoenix, every five hundred years to be resurrected as before. “I can lay down my soul and then take it again” – The artist does not aspire to this when he builds his poetry, his work? He dies and is resurrected, inside an egg or from flames, always among the branches of its nest scented with aromatic herbs. Construction, Combustion, Death, Resurrection, Transformation, Identity, Shape, Corporeality, Color, Smell – is not the very essence of artistic creation? The artist dies and is reborn every time when the work is completed because the artistic work has no conclusion, Metamórphõsis has no end because the Myth has no border.

A radical change (radical change) it means returning to zero to relive yourself, from Hölderlin's zero – an expression of maximum poetic power – to the streben of Goethe's Faust (Philemon in Baucid, Smoking), from the magical fairy tale of Shakespeare's Dream (Pyramus and Thisbe) to the majestic Rilkian lyric (Orpheus and Eurydice) chasing other frames from the fairy tale of life. The sumptuous and violent folds of the baroque of Calderón and Genet lead us back to the inviolate temple of the pure language of art that performs, that transforms, that deforms, which exalts the utopia of the unity of the world among resistant nature, the thinking man and the divine people: Echo˜Narcissus˜Cyparissus˜Alcyon, Death and Birth of little Phoenix, radioactive materials for a mutation in progress.”

“Lenz Rifraczioni creates enigmatic and fascinating shows that reject linear narrative. In “Radical Change”, inspired by Ovid's "Metamorphoses"., a very strong baroque and postmodern visual sign that recalls the atmospheres of Matthew Barney. The protagonists are the bodies, surrounded by projections, masked behind transparent plastic curtains, sunk in Plexiglas placentas, in a scene similar to an alchemical laboratory. Naked bodies moving with decisive gestures to looped music, up to the threshold of dance. And bodies of different people, who with their being introduce a poignant note, a feeling, a sensitivity. A girl with a beautiful expressive face, deformed torso and legs is an unforgettable Alcyone, while a woman with Down syndrome utters heartbreaking sounds to Hecuba, prisoner and deprived of her children. The exasperating insistence on images challenges the viewer to do the math, radically, with visions that continually envelop and change his own life".
